Haulers of Hope

We are midway through March and even with some holiday closures and snow days, we have had a busy start to 2025! So far this year, we have filled 108 requests, assisting 328 people (142 adults, 186 children). Some of those we assisted this week are a family of four starting a new life in Reston, a former legal prosecutor in Afghanistan and his young daughters, and a single gentleman with a traumatic brain injury who was able to move into a new home through a rental subsidy program.

All this work is enabled by our pickup teams who spend many hours fielding donation requests over email and journeying out into the community to pick up offered items. We continue to look for new volunteers to help with this critical work.

If you’re interested in being a โ€œfreelance haulerโ€ (picking up items in your own vehicle) or part of a team (riding along in Big Blue to make larger pick ups), please email Karen (marencarey@gracingspaces.com). You’ll meet wonderful people and often help them during challenging times of transition.
