A few weeks ago, a couple of chairs were donated. They were structurally sound, but the paint was chipped and they looked a little tired and worn. One of our newer volunteers, Julie, offered to take them home and give them a new coat of paint and a new life. On Saturday, Julie brought these two chairs to Centreville United Methodist Church, where we participate in their program called Grace Ministries. This program supports the local community. Clients register and then move through a series of rooms, picking up much needed food, diapers, clothes, home goods, toys, and furniture. We provide the furniture and staff the room. We placed Julie’s two chairs in the room, tagged them with a number, and waited for the clients to start moving through. The first items to go were the two blue chairs!
Everyone involved in Gracing Spaces cares deeply about our local community and environment, and for over twenty years, we have worked hard to keep useful and functioning things out of the landfill. If you have an interest in fixing up furniture—either structurally or cosmetically—we sure have a place for you!
