Making Lemonade

Recent freezes in Federal funding have been especially hard on our friends at Catholic Charities. Their plans for a local resource center, newly stocked with home furnishings, had to be abruptly cancelled in March. With abundant grace, they offered to us their huge supply of new dishes, silverware, measuring cups and spoons, sponges, wash cloths, and knife sets, along with many other home furnishings and furniture.

Humbled and grateful, we enlisted our pickup team, along with our Monday kitchen volunteers, to handle the job of gathering, unpacking, and organizing all this new inventory into our modest storage space. Always a hive of activity, the kitchenware department was especially busy. And as usual, every department continued to hum along packing up toys, clothes, linens, and kitchen goods, tagging and cleaning furniture, and selecting dรฉcor and pillows and lamps to make things homey for the families we served this week.

We are deeply grateful to our friends at Catholic Charities for โ€œmaking lemonadeโ€ of the great challenges they are facing these days. We will honor their gifts in passing them along to serve neighbors in need. If you have surplus gently-used pots and pans, toasters, or mixing bowls (clean, rust-free, and unscratched non-stick surfaces), our kitchenware volunteers would be delighted to make room for your donations!
